GIVING IS GREAT

History of Charity

MCKC has a history of giving to Dog Related Charities since at least 2010, if not earlier. It started out as donations to the Veterinary College. It has expanded since to include Veterinary Technicians, Disaster Relief (locally, nationally and internationally), Military War Dogs, Local Police and Sheriff Departments and more.

MCKC’s Giving Program has reached a new milestone. We are now over $190,000 donated since 2010.

Future of Giving

The Board of Directors is currently reviewing past charities to follow up about how they utilized our funding, and what they would want to do with any funding we give this year. Other in-need Disaster Areas are also being researched and evaluated. Once the information has been received, a budget will be developed, and then the club can approve dispersion.

Giving Levels are based on the amount of money the club makes from our Club Trials and Dog Shows, taking into account Club Development Goals and Expenses.

SOPHIE – Targes A Penny From Heaven BCAT

Sophie and MCKC Member Cyndi Klepper placed 4th in the American Bred class at the Cardigan Corgi Nationals. It it was their first National and fourth conformation show. We had a large class, with tough competitors.

This Team was BUSY – and They also earned a BCAT at their National.

From these photos, it appears this team enjoyed their first National.

MCKC Member Katrina Haskell and her Newfoundland Willow earned their Scent Work Container Novice Title. Team Willow came away with First, Second and Third Place Finishes.

Just so happens, it was at MCKC’s inaugural Scent Work Trials.

GREAT ENTRIES

On The Count of Three – Pat Yourselves on the Back!

It is always a challenge to take a leap – to make changes – to do things differently. That’s exactly what happened in April 2024, when MCKC changed their long time venue from the Pinehurst Polo Grounds to the Southeastern Agricultural Center in Lumberton – and become part of a Cluster with the Myrtle Beach Kennel Club.

The question that keeps planners up at night: Will The Exhibitors Come?

In short, the answer is yes. The Exhibitors Came.

This year’s dog shows showed the third highest attendance since 2023. See the details below:

From President Jane

It Takes A Village

My entire moth of April flew by so fast I’ve had very little time to post anything. After my National Sheltie Specialty at Purina farms, I had 2 days to prep for the 4 shows in Lumberton. Over all, I was so proud of our club! Our club members pulled together to make sure the shows were successful. All the exhibitors, the judges, the ring stewards, the workers and volunteers sang high praises about the shows. The venue was easy to work with and everyone loved the idea of 4 shows. I can’t thank Myrtle Beach Kennel Club for all the help before, during and after our shows. It takes everyone on the same page to provide successful ventures. If you worked or volunteered, I thank you and the club thanks you. Please mark your calendar for the picnic meeting at Canon Park Picnic Shelter in Pinehurst. Let’s celebrate our success!

Importing Dogs

New Ruling By US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Effective August 1, 2024

In today’s edition of the Federal Register, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published its newly finalized rule on the importation of dogs.  The 123-page rule, which will become effective on August 1, 2024, is available at https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2024-05-13/pdf/2024-09676.pdf

Last week, AKC published this post that alerted dog owners with a summary of the impending changes, which were reported in a letter from CDC to stakeholders.

The American Kennel Club’s Government Relations Department (AKC GR) has begun analyzing the new rule and will provide a summary of the requirements for owners and dogs once the analysis has been completed.

FIT WALK

May be an image of 2 people

Saturday, May 11 was the perfect morning for the club’s FIT WALK. The group that day at Whitehouse may have been small, but they were mighty!
