From President Jane

Hi all,

I hope everyone is healthy and getting ready for SPRING!!!!.

Our shows will be here before you know it. We need lots of volunteers and volunteering is a great way to get to know your fellow club members. Our march meeting will be by ZOOM due to conflicts with the Raleigh shows. Very hard on people driving back and forth to go to Raleigh and drive home, unload dogs and feed up, then head off to a kennel club meeting.

Ellen will be sending out the required log in info before the zoom meeting.

If there are jobs you feel confident in doing please speak up and attend the April meeting ‘in Person’. The April meeting will be a dinner meeting at the Table On The Green. I encourage all who attend to order something to eat or take out.

The order of business for the ZOOM meeting will be as follows

February 2022 Minutes

Wednesday,  February 9, 2022

The meeting was called to order by President Jane Hammett Bright at 6:05PM.

Ellen Pfann discussed working  on the website and blog, so they both work in the same fashion, and offer more features.  More info on this topic as Ellen gathers options.

Ellen discussed a possible new URL for the website.  Discussion at this time seemed to surround retaining what is already known.  Again, more info forthcoming and hopefully when there are more members attending with ideas.

Membership.  Report by Marjorie Watson on the state of new members, and to report that the current membership is up to date.   There are new members who have applied, but have not paid their dues yet, so she cannot add them to the membership list.

A treasurer’s report had been forwarded by Betty Chapman, and acknowledgement of three “thank you” note from Pet Responsibility, MIRA and Take the Lead.

Karolynne McAteer spoke briefly on the need for volunteers to run an efficient dog show in May.   So far no one has willingly stepped up to offer assistance with Vendors, Catalogue Sales, Parking assistance.   This will be pursued during the March and April meetings

Jane read a report from Bill Pace on the grounds and plans for set up at the Polo Field early in the week of May 2.  To date the plan is to have the tents fully erected and operational by Monday May 2 and to be inspected with fire extinguishers by May 3.    Golden Retriever events begin on Thursday May 5.  The MCKC shows begin on Saturday and Sunday May 7 and 8.

OLD BUSINESS

The MCKC support of our police dogs at Southern Pines police department and at the Pinehurst Police department.   Karolynne is set to visit those two departments during mid February.

NEW BUSINESS

Ellen reminded all of us that the Spring Fest is Saturday April 30 (the weekend before our show) and we have a double booth at this event.   Volunteers to help erect the booth and well-behaved dogs to meet and greet the public, are needed.  We will have printed judging programs to hand out for our show on hand .  It is a wonderful opportunity to let the general public know about MCKC.

Carol Dowd committed to ferns and flowers for the show, and for the photo set up.  They always make such a nice appearance at the Hospitality tent.

There being no additional business, the meeting was adjourned by Jane at 6:58PM.

January 2022 Minutes

Via Zoom, with officers, directors

and club members attending.

2021 Moore County KC President, Patty Pace called the Zoom meeting to order at 6:02 PM

The first purpose of the meeting was to announce the election of officers.  As there was no opposition to the proposed slate of the nominating committee, the President, Patty Pace, cast a vote to accept the election of officers and directors.

Patty Pace reviewed the Premium List for the May dog show and asked for someone to step up to be Vendor Chair.   We anticipate that someone will offer to help coordinate the vendors by the next meeting.

Patty turned the meeting over to the newly elected President for 2022, Jane Hammett Bright.

An application was approved for new members James, Erica, and John Brody, who have Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Karolynne McAteer asked that we review our charities, for year 2022, and that we catch up

on charitable donations not written for 2021.   She asked that Take the Lead receive their check as soon as possible, as they are hosting a major fundraising event at the Raleigh shows in March. Karolynne also mentioned that she’d like to visit the police departments of Southern Pines and Pinehurst to speak with the police chiefs, and possibly the canine handlers, about funding a new dog via the AKC Adopt a k9Cop program.  It is a terrific offer that comes via AKC REUNITE to have the local dog clubs donate/raise $2,500 per dog and Reunite will kick in the remaining $7,500.   Regardless of the outcome of that conversation, MCKC will send, as usual, checks for $1,000 to each of the two police stations (both of whom have police dogs.)

There was a discussion about Juniors, and the AKC suggestion that every club have a Juniors Liaison focused on getting Juniors into our membership. Information will be provided to Jane, by Karolynne, to get the ball rolling.  There is also a very good book on the 4H presence in dogs, and we will get that book as well.

Ellen Pfann will update the officers and directors list and send the new list to AKC and update the website. Ellen asked that everyone send her their brags so she will have material for the BARKER.

Betty Chapman reported on the treasury and said there has not been much activity this first month, but she expects more with Agility checks coming in, and the start of vendors booking space for the MCKC show. Betty reports that the treasury is strong.

There was a discussion, led by Ursula Walsh, on locations for the upcoming Agility trials, and she will keep us posted.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:05PM.
